Membership and contributions

You can browse without an account. To submit a contribution or leave a comment, you must register and sign in. New accounts use the basic Subscriber role and cannot publish posts directly.

WordPress stores your account username and email address and manages your password and login. Choose a public name you are comfortable sharing. Your account email is not displayed with your contribution.

When you contribute, we store your public name, title, category, contribution text, and permission confirmation. Every submission waits for an administrator’s review. Accepted contributions may appear publicly with your name and chosen category. The sharing form does not request a website URL or a separate email address, and image uploads are currently closed.

Comments

Comments are open to signed-in members and require approval before they appear. WordPress may store the account details, comment text, technical connection information such as IP address and browser information, and the time of the comment. External avatar images are disabled.

Cookies and technical records

WordPress uses cookies for sign-in and account preferences. If you choose to save comment details in your browser, those choices may also use cookies. Our hosting provider processes technical access and security logs to operate and protect the site.

The contribution plugin’s separate IP tracking is disabled. This does not prevent the hosting provider or WordPress comment system from maintaining their own technical records.

Review, storage, and removal

Administrators review contributions and comments before publication. Submitted content and account records remain in WordPress until they are changed or removed. Technical logs and backups are managed by the hosting provider, so an older copy may remain in a backup after a record is removed from the active site.

To ask about your information, correct a contribution, request removal, or close your account, email bkobl@thebrokenscale.com. We may need to verify that the request comes from the account or contributor concerned.

A welcoming table

Share your own work and experiences, or obtain permission and give credit. Be kind, avoid personal attacks and undisclosed promotion, and keep private details out of posts. Recipes should include useful ingredients, amounts, methods, and relevant allergen information. Submitting content asks us to consider it for publication; it does not guarantee acceptance.

Links may take you to The Broken Scale or another website. Those sites have their own account and privacy practices.
